Tainan Foreigner Assistance Center Grand Opening

I attended the Tainan Foreigner Assistance Center’s grand opening last Monday. Wasn’t expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised with the lovely space provided for the office headquarters. They must have some cash behind them. Let’s see what they can do.

Worth checking out for the free publications, I was particularly pleased with ‘The Splendor of an Old City.’ Sumptuous pictures and good English text.

Here is their website: Amazing Tainan It’s rough but there is some info there.

  1. Ha, ha. Glad to hear I held the audience captive with my moving speech that I had all of 3 minutes to prepare for.

The center does look promising with it’s high hopes. I found out later that this is actually being pushed as the Southern Taiwan Foreigner Assistance Center and not just a local branch. The other one is the Northern Taiwan Foreigner Assistance Center located in Hsinchu. I do think the mayor’s done a lot to make the city more attractive and now there’s a center where we can offer our suggestions and get lots of info on tourism, food, transportation and stuff that usually is tough for newcomers.

    • I agree, it looks promising.

I like the mayor’s ongoing promotion and preservation of Tainan’s traditional culture. Well worth promoting.

  2. Well dunno how is the center doing, but I just went on their website, and the welcome page is a mess. In both IE and Firefox, the layers overlap, and there’s a melt of English/Chinese/Japanese. The English text is full of typos, even on the scroll down menus… Good luck!

    • Website works horribly on Firefox and ok on my IE, but still unimpressive.

Do check out the centers publications though. It’s on the second floor of the new Tainan City Hall.
