Photographs and Information about Taiwan's Culture, Nature and People by Rich Matheson

Palawan Boatman, Philippines

I took this in Palawan, Philippines on a family trip and recently pulled it up for imageination, a photographic exhibition here in Tainan.  B+W was required for half the submissions so I converted it and quite like it. The color version can be seen after the jumpI was treading water for this shot!

  2. Where were you standing exactly? I am curious.

    • Hanjie, I wasn’t standing. I was treading water. Kind of dumb but water was calm and I had envisioned a shot in the open waters from under the pontoons. It was ok. But when I turned around and saw the guy on the deck, I thought it was nicer. If I had put a white reflector on the deck, under his face, it could have been really nice.

  3. Hi! I’m from the Philippines but I’m currently in Taiwan on a scholarship. I’ve been reading your blog for some time now, and I have to say.. I’m surprised (and happy) that you’ve been to the Philippines! Aside from Palawan, where else did you go? 🙂 I agree, I like the b&w version of the picture better too – probably because in some ways, it’s more dramatic! Good luck with the exhibition! 🙂

    • I love the Philippines! It is close(to Taiwan), reasonably priced, beautiful and the people are so nice. Other than Palawan with my family, I went overland from Manilla to Camiguan Island in about a month twenty years ago. Saw many amazing things along the way!
Are you studying design in Taipei?

      • Tickets are cheap (especially if you book Cebu Pacific seat sale ones!) :p if you have the time, you should explore other islands in the Philippines with your family! I’m sure you’re gonna have lots of fun! 🙂 I’m studying Mandarin this year, and then I’ll be taking my MA in Int’l Affairs next year!
